Blanding (pop. 4,000) is a mid-size town in southeastern Utah. It serves primarily as a stopping off point for those traveling to other destinations in the area. Within easy driving distance are Natural Bridges National Monument, the Abajo Mountains and Hovenweep National Monument, among others. Blanding itself has a number of motels, a few private campgrounds, several restaurants and most other services a traveler might need.
However, Blanding is more than just a collection of motels and eateries along the highway. It is also home to Edge of the Cedars State Park, which preserves Anasazi artifacts and a kiva from nearly a millennium ago. . The Dinosaur Museum has some fine skeletons and is a great way for kids to learn about prehistoric ecology. Utah State University Nations of the Four Corners Cultural Center is an excellent way for kids and adults alike to learn more about the thriving native cultures in the area.
Blanding is on Highway 191 about 75 miles south of Moab and 26 miles north of Bluff.
