Kanab is a pleasant, mid-sized town on Highway 89 that serves as a popular traveler's stop. Surrounded by a unsurpassed collection of western scenery, from Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park, lava flows, deep canyons, and desert mountains. As such, it is a focal point for much of the outdoor recreation this area is popular for.
Kanab is conveniently and centrally situated among several major attractions in Southern Utah and Northern Arizona:
- Zion National Park - 30 miles northwest
- Grand Staircase National Monument - 15 miles east
- Bryce Canyon National Park - 75 miles north
- Lake Powell - 70 miles east
- The Grand Canyon (North Rim) - 80 miles southeast
Kanab has also gained some fame for being the site of many western movies. It's locally known a bit boastfully as "Little Hollywood." Another point of local fame is Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, a large pet preserve up in the canyon and open to visitors. Nearby is historic Moqui Cave and its unique collection of dinosaur footprints and Native American artifacts.
Kanab is a good place to sleep and eat between National Park adventures and has plenty of accommodations and casual restaurants.
