Description
Soft stone sandstone piled up in towers and buttresses and mostly with very easy approaches, Arches is a desert climber paradise. The formations are incredible, of course. Because Arches is soft stone, however, climbers do have to be careful not to abuse it and should expect the routes to be pretty, well, sandy. Difficulty has a wide range, but many routes do fall between 5.8 to 5.11.
Because this is a national park, and a national park with sensitive cryptobiotic soil, do keep a low profile and walk on washes once you leave the pavement.
