The Colorado River carves some terrific canyons through the sandstone desert terrain past Moab and through Canyonlands National Park before emptying into Lake Powell. It offers long stretches of calm water as well as some outstanding whitewater. Most notable is Westwater Canyon near the Colorado border, and Cataract Canyon in Canyonlands National Park. More mild whitewater, as well as peaceful float trips, can be found near Moab.
You can also experience the beauty of the Colorado River along some nice scenic drives near Moab, or gaze out over the magnificent canyons it has carved from overlooks at Dead Horse Point State Park and Canyonlands National Park.
