Description
This 12 mile trail follows the shoreline of Strawberry Reservoir through the "Narrows," a narrow canyon of the reservoir accessible only by boat or this non-motorized trail. Two trailheads access the Narrows Trail, at Aspen Grove or Renegade boat ramps on the south end of the reservoir where parking and restrooms are provided. Although this is a long trail, it is primarily flat and distances can be varied, making it a great out-and-back hike for anyone.
To do the entire length of the trail, park a vehicle at each end. From Renegade, the trail crosses sagebrush flats before it enters the wooded Narrows. Once into the Narrows, the trail is surrounded by conifers and aspens with views and access to the water. Wildlife is common in this area. Don't be surprised to see elk and deer on your hike.
To reach the trailheads follow US Hwy 40 southeast of Heber City to Strawberry Valley. Turn at the Strawberry Visitor Center and follow the West Strawberry Road 14 miles to Renegade boat ramp and the trailhead. Or continue on US Hwy 40 to the Aspen Grove turnoff and follow this road past the dam to Aspen Grove boat ramp and the east trailhead.
