Description
The Paiute ATV Trail in south-central Utah has been rated as one of the best ATV trails in the country. A 235-mile loop trail, this scenic route crosses three mountain ranges and rises to 11,500 feet above sea level at its highest point. Riders from around the country come to the area to experience the beauty of the Tushar and Pahvant mountains and the Sevier Plateau, either in sections or by doing the complete loop.
The entire trail takes three or four days to ride, and if you plan to explore any of the hundreds of miles of connecting side trails, you can easily spend a week in the region. Remnants of the area's rich mining history can still be discovered in the forested hills and valleys. Lots of wildlife, including deer, elk, eagles, moose, squirrels, and a variety of birds, can also been seen along the trail.
The complete loop trail crests some high points that usually do not open until late in the summer. Though parts of the trail can be ridden in spring, the entire loop is usually not open until July. The best time to ride the trail is in September and October, when the weather is cooler. The small town of Marysvale is the unofficial base for trail riders, but access to the trail is also available from Beaver, Panguitch and Richfield.
