Description
Like many cities, Salt Lake City Utah offers a variety of shopping experiences, ranging from quaint vintage and boutique stores to mainstream retailers and large shopping malls. For the latter, visit the open air Gateway Mall, located just a few blocks west of downtown Salt Lake. This fairly large, pedestrian friendly district caters to mainstream fashion, but also boasts a few local boutiques. There are restaurants aplenty, both sit down and fast food. And if the kids get restless, there’s a children’s museum, a geyser-like water fountain, and a movie theatre to keep them entertained.
For you artsy types, East Broadway (300 South) downtown, spans several blocks of antique, vintage, record stores, and other shops. Find gift boutiques at the Frosty Darling, or dig through the stacks at Ken Sanders Rare Books & Gallery. You’ll find hip CD’s and vinyl at Slowtrain record store, and a stylish scene at Nobrow Coffee & Tea Company. Broadway Centre Cinemas, known for indie film screenings, is located here.
A few blocks southeast of downtown is Trolley Square, a state registered historic building renovated as a festival marketplace. Its unique and charming atmosphere offers big name retailers, boutiques, dining, and entertainment. This historic landmark offers a rare opportunity to simultaneously peer into the past and leap fashion forward.
The Sugar House shopping district, located a few miles southeast of downtown, is worth a trip. This area combines the feel of an old main street with a hip and modern vibrancy. It’s one of the few areas in Salt Lake that still has narrow, pedestrian navigable streets. There are big name retailers offering and discount department store racks, as well as art supply and record stores. There is a big variety of unique eateries and shops. In Sugar House Park you can feed migratory birds while taking a revitalizing stroll around the pond.
These are just a few of many potential shopping adventures in Salt Lake City Utah.
