Description
Little Cottonwood and Big Cottonwood Canyons are the playgrounds for the Salt Lake City metroplex. Amongst huge granite walls and wooded cliffs, these two canyons have the most developed and extensive amount of climbing throughout the Wasatch Front’s multiple canyons and peaks.
The climbing in both the canyons boasts both single and multi-pitch routes, the longest of which can take a competent climber all day. There is a good sampling of sport routes and single pitch walls but the real gem of climbing here are the trad multi-pitch routes which offer incomparable views of the deep canyon and of the spreading Great Salt Lake valley below.
Bouldering is also incredibly popular and accessible in both of these canyons as they have fallen copiously off from the sheer cliffs above long ago. With so much rock in this area, the problems and routes to climb here are only the best of what the mountains can offer.
